what matters most

As I browse through the many many images I've shot this week and contemplate what to share for Best Shot Monday, it is this self-timer series of my girls and I that stops me in my tracks. No other photograph could ever mean more to me than something as simple and pure as this.

Our summer has been busy, and crazy. It's how summer usually goes. I'm just glad that one late afternoon last week after piano practice and ice cream cones I urged my daughters to join me on the back patio for some long-overdue portraits of the three of us. Note to the mothers out there-please take some self-timer shots with your kids! You will never regret it.

This is us. A quintessential summer evening at home, where we spend so much of our time together. Where sacred family time is shared. I am not at home tonight (more on my NYC adventure later)  but it's images like this one that remind me that there's no place I'd rather be.

How about you? What shot begged to be shared this week?

BTW, the Shutter Sisters' One Word Project word for August is home. Be sure to share your pictures of home with us in the OWP Flickr Pool.

oh tracey...that one just melts me -- i, too, am a huge fan of self-timer portraits with the kids. i know that even if they don't turn out perfect, i will never regret taking them -- what a treasure.

How absolutely beautiful, and what a peaceful moment to capture in the midst of a hectic season.

Here's my Best Shot - what happens when I slow down.

this is one of the sweetest, most heartbreakingly beautiful shots I've seen in a while. xo

I love it! The desaturation does a really nice job of emphasizing your faces. I actually tried to do the same thing this past weekend, but since my kids are younger (3.5 and 2) it was a little less successful. A lot less, actually.

That's ok, though. I got some great shots of a fun indoor activity this weekend.

Oh...I'm so going to set up my timer this week! Thanks for the beautiful reminder. I found my little girl again this weekend and made it my BSM.

Gorgeous! We've been enjoying family reunion this weekend, and this is a great reminder to be purposeful about getting into more than every few hundred pictures! Thanks for sharing your beautiful shots with us, and encouraging us to come out from behind the camera sometimes!

Here's mine for this week!

What a wonderful portrati! I really should do this as well. My BSM was from about a week ago at a Beatles tribute concert at the park

I know what you mean. It seem like I am never in any of the pictures with my kids. I will have to get out the remote.
Here is my Best Shot from the weekend at the park.

Beautiful! We spent a whole day at home yesterday, for maybe the first time this summer, and it was nice to have a long, slow day. I found a long, slow caterpillar to match (and marvel at).

Love it! Thanks for the great advice... It is important for mamas to get in front of the camera too :)

My camera died - right after we met, in fact. Then my dad gave me his ancient little happy-snap powershot, and this past weekend I left it behind in a friend's sailboat in the Adirondacks, where we retrieved it from the bilch. Seeing this gorgeous shot will help when I'm shelling out money-we-don't-really-have for a new camera!

That's a great shot. C'mon by and see mine for today. It's entitled "WINGS"
